The Dune
The dune.
The boy ran and ran and ran. Behind him, the man walked steadily, absorbed in thought, down the desolate stretch of beach that led to the tall dune. "C'mon, Daddy," cried the boy and kept running.
The boy tested his limits and periodically fell, crashing into the sand on his head or his shoulders.
The man said nothing, pretended to ignore him, knowing that to acknowledge the plight would invite the tears. The boy picked himself up, brushed off a few grains and set out again, charging along the shore.
The man did not lack compassion.
If anything, he felt too much, carried far more weight than he needed, his own inner struggle with penance and the difficulty in drawing the line between responsibility and guilt for past transgressions.
He had tasted many failures, sat often at the table of sorrow and drank from the bitter cup of disappointment that left an acrid, sickly grumbling in the pit of his stomach.
He tried, though not always successfully, to take the lesson with him from each experience.
Often, there was nothing else left.
In his son, the man saw the future. He determined to let the boy learn on his own, to forge his own strength of character one small challenge at a time, to gain confidence that the number of falls mattered little, that he could always rise and begin again. Stoic, the man looked straight ahead and refused to let himself meet the boy's eyes after each tumble. They reached the dune.
The boy scuttled up its side like a crab, as fast as he could.
The man plodded to the top and squatted. He watched the boy perform multiple antics, leaping down the dune like a goat and hurdling himself down the steepest parts onto his stomach in an effort to become a human surf board. Over and over, the boy reached the bottom and returned for another round, trying new moves and maneuvers. The man encouraged him and praised his efforts regardless of outcome. What could he do to give his boy the best chance? How could he help the most without getting in the way, without being over-protective yet also without ignoring the need for nurturing, kindness and compassion? The man pondered this at great length.
As usual, he drew few conclusions, only a yearning to do his part as a steward. Though he could conceive of nothing more important, he tempered his desire to interfere and tinker with the slow and gradual process.
He bit his tongue and dug for patience--a virtue that eluded him even though he understood its value and fought within himself to bring it forth.
He would step aside but not very far.
The boy discovered a fresh trick.
He rolled sideways off the upper ridge and gathered steam on the way down, faster and faster, until his legs became tangled.
At peak speed he lost his angle and buried his cheeks into the sand.
The boy glanced up, his face full of grief, the pivotal moment before his eyes welled up and the sobs burst out.
The man had already glanced away, cast his gaze across the water and feigned unawareness. The boy spit, brushed his forehead with the back of his hand, shook his hair and spent a few seconds checking in with himself. He frowned then began to climb. In stillness, the man smiled.

General Book Digitization Guidelines
We often hear about book scanning and book digitization, but is it more than laying a book on a scanner?
We tend to say it is way more than that.
We will start with the first issue, copyright.
Copyright or having the rights to that book gives you the right to scan it, only for your personal use.
Most scanning companies will ask you for a disclaimer, saying basically that you will not transfer the scan to other businesses or individuals, and you do it for personal use only. Of course there are individuals who will try and sell the copy, but remember, having the book in your property will only give you the right to scan it for personal use. Try and be one of the good guys. Second of all, think why you're doing the scan. For example, if you want to take some of your books with you on a holiday, without having a big luggage, you might want to make sure the files generated are small, and load up fast enough.
Because you are on a holiday, you'll read in very often but short stints, so waiting too much for a book to load up will only frustrate you.
Color, grayscale or bitonal? Most of the scanning providers will charge you extra for color scanning, therefore save on the aspects that don't affect you.
Usually color scanning gives you good quality of images, and where every image detail is critical, it is highly recommended.
Bitonal scanning on the other hand won't get you far on images, so avoid it when your images are relevant.
On the other hand, for novels or other books where images are not important or don't exist at all, take the bitonal option.
It will always be the cheapest, and will give you very good readability. Also, it will be the least tiresome for your eyes.
In the middle we have grayscale scanning.
This will give you decent images and good readability for text. Also, it's somewhere in the middle when it comes to pricing, so we could name it a good compromise.

Bullying - 5 Steps to Stop It
Bullying has been put on the radar at schools.
It is not as if it hasn't been around for a very long time. It's affects are becoming more and more critical and even deadly in some instances.
If your child is experiencing bullying I have 5 steps that will help you stop the bully in his/her tracks.
Maintain Open Communication With Your Child As parents we should always keep the lines of communication open with our kids. We want them to feel good about coming to us and expressing their feelings. Peer pressure amongst children these days is excruciating.
If they don't know how to stand up for themselves they won't. If your child is being bullied the best course of action is to talk it out with them.
Have them explain everything that has happened.
You will need to know when the bullying started and if whether or not they have told anyone adult at school.
Contact The School For A Discussion Call your child's teacher immediately. Voicing your concerns with a one-on-one with the teacher will be a way to get a handle on whats happening.
Teachers are a great resource and are usually aware of who the troubled students are in the school.
Also, your child's school may have a program setup for bully prevention.
Confront the Bullies Parents With A Mediator Present As a parent you may want to confront the parents of the bully. Keep in mind there needs to be a mediator present when this happens.
A mediator can be any school representative such as a teacher or principal or counselor. It is possible that the parents are not aware that their child is a bully.
In this case a sensitive approach is more appropriate.
If the parents are aware that their child is a bully then a mediator will help prevent any outward violence to you.
Have Patience Be patient.
Allow the authorities to intervene and come up with solutions for resolving the issues of the bully. In the meantime, if you can buddy your child up with a neighbor or an older sibling.
Since the teacher is aware of the problem a more watchful eye will be kept on both children.
If a teacher senses that there is still a problem it can be dealt with more directly.
If The Problem Persists Seek Legal Help At this point you have communicated with your child, contacted the school, spoken with the parents and nothing has changed.
Rather than taking matters into your own hands get legal advice.
Contact law enforcement officials or an attorney.
Never take it upon yourself to take on the parents by yourself, it could result in legal action against you.
There is help.
Most schools have programs put in place to keep bullies in check.
Programs may offer questionnaires for students, bully prevention committees and school events.
Check with your school to see what programs and help is available.

Insane Color - Scene Kid
The Scene Kid world has brought back the insane color combination's that had many of us reaching for our sunglasses years ago. Not only are these colors coming back in clothes and accessories, but in crazy hair color too.
Neon colors in every shade and deep, rich colors are making their way into the wardrobe of our kids, especially in the scene kids world.
Bright oranges, neon blues, rich purples, and awesome ranges of reds and greens are all making themselves known once again.
These insane color combination's had their moments in the 1980's, but they are back, along with the tight jeans and ratty hair.
As a parent, I try not to wince at some of the colors my kids want to put together. I would not be caught dead in bright, lime green and neon blue, but the kids think that this is a great color combination.
I have also seen that my children seem to express themselves more effectively, and safely with this.
I have also noticed that they seem to try out the new colors on the scene kids before they put the combination on themselves.
This is a great trial-and-error method of letting their personality show through.

The researchers admire the quickness of making the ears.
The total process take less than 48 hours: half a day to scan and design the mold, one day to print, 30 minutes to inject the gel, and the 15 minute wait mentioned before.

Solving linear equations in one variable is isolating the variable but solving system of linear equations is not only isolating the variable at one side but solving all the given variables in all the equations simultaneously.
In these types of equations, there may be two equations with two variables or three equations with three variables as shown below.
System of two linear equations with two variables "x" and "y" is given below: 3x + 5y = 2 2x - 3y = - 5 Also there is possibility of a system of three linear equations with three different variables.
This system of equations is a grade eleven level and a higher algebra topic.
But the method to solve is similar the method above.
Below is an example equations having three variables "x", "y" and "z": 2x + y + 2z = 1 x + y + z = 1 3x - y + 2z = 0 Above was the introduction to different system of linear equations and two very common types of systems we have discussed.
